One Special Person!
Kim Downey has been that consistent connector with Gresham High School and the Gopher Spirit Club. While the GSC may have disbanded, Kim was here this past Saturday doing what she does best. Volunteer on behalf of education and students.
Kim started as an elementary teacher but stepped back from that to raise her kids so volunteering in the school was a natural way for her to stay involved in education. Her volunteering led to co PTC President at West Gresham for three years.
In 2008 she plugged into the Gopher Spirit Club when she was asked to be the girls basketball representative. The GSC was extremely active at that time thanks to a village of awesome parents and volunteers. During the next 10 years, GSC contributed over $250,000 to Gresham High School. She was instrumental in organizing and facilitating events like, Drive 4 UR School, the Concession stand, Pitch and Putt Golf Tournament & Auction and the Wall of Support just to name a few.
The funds raised went to purchasing items for the school, soccer, basketball and baseball uniforms, new scoreboard, new sound system for the stadium, chairs for the gym, turf for the field, dance team apparel, banners, game equipment, musical equipment, choir robes and music, fall kick off BBQ for parents and students, tennis benches and equipment. Wow!
So, if you ever doubted that one special person could make a difference, we hope this puts your doubts to rest!
This community owes you a huge THANK YOU, Kim Downey and we will continue to be a part of your "village" making a difference for our kids!
