Reynolds student named correspondent for national conference

Erik Truong of Fairview will represent Reynolds High School as a national youth correspondent to the 2014 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University July 13-18 in Washington, D.C.

Truong joins students from across the country for an intensive study of journalism and media. He was chosen based on his academic accomplishments and demonstrated interest and excellence in the field.

Correspondents participate in hands-on journalism and media training, learning from prominent journalists, CEOs of major media outlets, researchers and recent college graduates successfully entering the field.

MHCC welcomes award-winning author March 3

The Mt. Hood Community College Creative Writing Speaker Series is hosting Pam Houston, the award-winning author of two collections of linked short stories.

She will be on campus from noon-1:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, in the Visual Arts Theatre, 26000 S.E. Stark St. Students, college employees and the general public are welcome to attend.

Houston’s stories have been selected for volumes of Best American Short Stories, The O. Henry Awards, The Pushcart Prize and Best American Short Stories of the Century.

Houston is director of creative writing at the University of California at Davis and teaches in the Pacific University low-residency master of fine arts program and at writers’ conferences around the world.
