A man died early Thursday, Aug. 14 when the motorcycle he was on crashed into a deer near the Troutdale airport, according to KOIN 6 News.

The victim was identified as Michael Rowland, 54, of Gresham. He was on his way to work about a half mile from the crash site.

The crash was reported at 5:29 a.m. by a driver who came across the scene while headed to work.

Police and paramedics responded but were unable to save the man.

The East County Vehicular Crimes Team was at the scene and is conducting an investigation. The state medical examiner was also at the scene and will later conduct an autopsy on the man’s body. Police confirm they have preliminary identification of the man.

The deer did not survive the crash, police said.
