Fairview City Councilor Tamie Tlustos-Arnold announced her candidacy for Senate District 25 on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

"The residents of East County deserve a strong voice in the Oregon Legislature, and I am prepared to be their voice for family wage jobs and stronger schools in our communities," Tlustos-Arnold said in a press release. "Working with children in poverty in east Multnomah County, I see first-hand the struggles working families face. I will bring a fresh perspective to Salem and fight for better jobs, stronger schools and safer neighborhoods to help all families thrive."

Tlustos-Arnold works as a registered nurse, and also serves on the Mt. Hood Community College Board of Directors, as well as vice president of the West Columbia Gorge Chamber of Commerce.

She was recently appointed to the Fairview City Council in July. Having served a two-year term in 2012, Tlustos-Arnold lost her bid for re-election in 2014. After two Fairview councilors resigned suddenly, she applied alongside several other candidates for the two open positions and was selected to complete an unexpired term.

As a councilor, Tlustos-Arnold has said a business incentive program is important to her.

"East County needs a change in leadership," Tlustos-Arnold said. "Just because an idea sounds good to our leaders in Salem, doesn't mean it will work for us. It's time our legislators put East County first."

With her announcement, Tlustos-Arnold included a list of endorsements including Sen. Chuck Thomsen, R-District 26, fellow councilors Steve Prom and Dan Kreamier and Mt. Hood Community College board member Michael Calcagno.

Tlustos-Arnold filed her official candidacy with the Secretary of State this afternoon as a Republican. Monnes Anderson, Democrat and also a registered nurse, filed Sept. 10.

The filing deadline for this, and other local positions including House District 49, 50 and 52, is March 8, 2016.
