CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: HABITAT FOR HUMANITY - Julie Carter has been named the vice president of retail operations for Portland Metro Habitat for Humanity. The new vice president of retail operations for the Portland Metro Habitat for Humanity ReStores wants to use her entrepreneurial approach to increase success at all of the locations, including the most recent in Gresham.

Julie Carter was named to the position on Jan. 24, and will oversee operations for the four retail stores including sales, donation pickup, business relations, volunteer development, marketing, communications and salvage services. The four local ReStores are in Gresham, 610 N.E. 181st Ave., and Portland, Beaverton and Vancouver.

"If people knew we were here, what we do, what we offer, it would be a no-brainer," Carter said. "That's one of my big goals. When we accomplish this, ReStore can become a larger contributor to Habitat's homebuilding initiative."

Habitat's ReStores accept appliances, furniture, roofing materials, new and used paints, tools, hardware, lumber, flooring, lawn and garden decorations, doors, windows and much more. Everything helps divert thousands of tons of reusable materials from the landfills. They then sell those items for about 50 percent of the retail price, using the money to build homes for families in need across the region.

Carter joins Habitat with 13 years of experience at Whole Foods Market where she was the store leader for Fremont and the Pearl locations. She also opened the Hollywood market.

"Julie is a true servant leader (who) will help grow our ReStore program and advance Habitat's mission of providing hardworking families the opportunity to build and buy a home of their own," said Steve Messinetti, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Portland Metro East.

Along with her business acumen, Carter also helped claim four NCAA Division I National Championships playing soccer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
