Library to celebrate children and books with festive party
The Gresham Library will host a festive celebration of childhood and bilingual literacy, ¡Día de los Niños y Día de los Libros! from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 14. The event is becoming a yearly tradition at the Gresham branch of the Multnomah County Library.
The literacy party will feature music, face painting, crafts and more. Every child will get a free book to take home.
From 2-3 p.m. Mariachi Viva Mexico will perform its energetic music. This lively Mariachi band includes trumpets, violins, guitars, guitaron and vihuelas.
The American Library Association (ALA) said the Dia celebrations, which take place all over the world, emphasize "the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds."
It's a way to celebrate children and connect them to learning through books, stories and libraries, the ALA said.
This celebration is made possible in part by The Library Foundation with support from the Regional Arts and Culture Council, US Bank Foundation and Honl Tree Care.
