Troutdale Elementary students out for recess were brought inside old building during fire

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: KOIN 6 - Nobody was hurt in a small fire at the new school under construction. The new Troutdale Elementary School under construction had a small fire on the roof Monday, the second such incident in as many months at a school being built in the Reynolds School District.

Troutdale students were out for recess and were brought inside during the fire, reported KOIN 6 News, an Outlook news partner.

Students are attending the old schools next door to the new ones being built in the Reynolds district.

Gresham firefighters told KOIN they believed metal equipment on the roof of the new Troutdale refracted the sunlight and caused the fire on Monday, May 14, which left only minor damage.

Construction workers on the roof saw the fire and put water on it until firefighters arrived.

There were no injuries, KOIN said.

On Tuesday, March 20, a small fire broke out on the roof of Fairview Elementary School, which is also under construction. Nobody was harmed in the Fairview blaze.

Both new elementary schools are being paid for by a $125 million bond passed by Reynolds voters in May 2015. Students at Wilkes Elementary School also are getting a new building, and Reynolds High School was expanded and remodeled. All Reynolds schools got safety and security upgrades.
