Gresham officers rushed to East Park Place — an apartment complex located at 18837 S.E. Yamhill Street in the Rockwood neighborhood — around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 1 after receiving reports of a shooting.

Police say the alleged shooter was driving on Yamhill when he stopped in front of the complex and engaged in a brief conversation with the victim, who has not been identified.

Suddenly, the motorist opened fire, police say.

"It doesn't really sound like there was an argument, just some sort of words were said and then shots were fired," Officer Ben Costigan told The Outlook. "By the time we go there the suspect had fled."

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Costigan says Gresham's gang enforcement team continues to investigate and interview witnesses, who have apparently offered somewhat conflicting testimony.
