Barlow breaks ground on construction projects, Gresham-Barlow district honors support staff

Barlow High School will have a groundbreaking ceremony at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the high school, 5105 S.E. 302nd Ave.

The school will get an extensive remodel and a new athletic stadium as part of the $291.2 million facilities bond voters approved in November 2016.

Construction will begin as soon as students are out of school and the projects are expected to be finished in early 2020.

All district schools are getting security upgrades and other improvements.

Make slime with Mad Science workshop

Budding elementary school scientists can create slime and learn about the properties of polymers in this free workshop led by Mad Science from 3-4 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at the Troutdale Library, 2451 S.W. Cherry Park Road.

Gresham-Barlow honors support employees

The Gresham-Barlow School District honored support staff, so-called classified staff, that go "above and beyond the call of duty" with newly-created ABCD awards.

The latest outstanding employees named are Tracy Lacey, attendance secretary at West Orient Middle School; Kerry Smith, counseling secretary at Gresham High School; and Koryna Herreid, head secretary at Springwater Trail High School.

Teens craft cyanotypes at Rockwood Library

Students in grades six and higher can learn to make photographs using only sun and water in a free workshop from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Rockwood Library, 17917 S.E. Stark St.
