Several warning signs are now posted at Powell Butte Nature Park regarding sighting

A cougar was spotted at the Powell Butte Nature Park on Sunday, June 20.

Several warning signs are now posted at the park, according to a report by KOIN 6 News, a Pamplin Media Group news partner.

Cougars have been spotted in and around more urban areas of Oregon during the past few years.

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials said there are more than 6,000 cougars living around the state. They're normally afraid of humans but they are predators known to kill pets and livestock.

In recent years, cougars have been reported in Silverton, Tigard, Seaside, Sandy, Albany, Lebanon and La Pine.
