Gresham Breakfast Lions Club made the donation during a Chamber event showcasing the nonprofit

The Gresham Breakfast Lions Club presented a check to Guide Dogs for the Blind during a recent event that allowed the community to discover all the local nonprofit organization provides.

The $6,000 check was presented during this month's Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce's "Try Local Tuesday," which showcases local businesses and organizations, on Tuesday afternoon, June 26, at Guide Dogs for the Blind, 32901 S.E. Kelso Road in Boring.

Visitors got to tour the facility and see a demonstration at the obstacle course.

"We are very appreciative of our community and want to thank people for all the support," said Cheryl Vincent, Guide Dogs' director of training.

The money helps continue the organization's goal of training and providing seeing-eye dogs to people in need for more than 70 years. Because it's a nonprofit that doesn't charge those who need service dogs, Guide Dogs relies on fundraising and donations for support.

Gresham Ford was the event's presenting sponsor.
