The Gresham Police Department's safety mission will run from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 13

The Gresham Police Department will conduct a pedestrian safety operation during Friday rush hour in an effort to raise pedestrian safety awareness for drivers and those on foot.

The mission will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 13, at the intersection of West Powell Boulevard and West Powell Loop. The focus will be a two-pronged approach — education and enforcement of right-of-way laws.

Drivers must stop and yield to pedestrians who are waiting to cross, or are already crossing the roadway. Motorists are also required to stop at all crosswalks when there is a vehicle already stopped in a lane next to the one they are traveling in.

Funding for the operation is from an Oregon Impact and Oregon Department of Transportation grant. Additional safety missions will be conducted throughout the summer and as the school year begins.
