Employees busy filling customers' online orders at the north Troutdale Facility

The Amazon Fulfillment Center, an industrial facility that processes online orders, has opened in north Troutdale.

Employees are busy sending out customers' packages at the center at 1250 N.W. Swigert Way, said Lauren Lynch, an Amazon Corporate Communications official.

Emails seeking further comment about the facility were not returned by The Outlook's press deadline.

The new industrial center is not up to full speed yet, said Troutdale City Manager Ray Young.CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: TRAMELL CROW COMPANY - An aerial view of the Troutdale Amazon Fulfillment Center.

"But temporary approvals are in place and they are transitioning from 'building it' to 'using it,'" Young said. "The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and Gresham Fire is getting great cooperation from Amazon staff to make sure everyone is coordinated just in case any public safety issues arise in the future."

The city of Troutdale issued Amazon its temporary occupancy status on Aug. 17, said Chris Damgen, Troutdale community development director, and Amazon is expected to secure full-occupancy status by approximately Oct. 15.

The 74-acre development cost roughly $178.4 million.

In exchange for building inside Troutdale's enterprise zone, the city awarded Amazon a five-year tax break worth approximately $9.6 million.
