Unexepected windfall aimed at home improvement, padding couple's retirement fund

A Troutdale man won a $100,000 prize from an Oregon Lottery Scratch-it ticket.

David Black won the jackpot from playing a $10 Lucky Numbers Scratch-it, according to a press release from the Oregon Lottery. Playing scratch-off tickets is one of Black's hobbies.

The Lucky Numbers Scratch-it game has two top prizes of $100,000.

David asked his wife, Jean Black, to look at the winning ticket when she arrived home. She examined the ticket before informing him there was something strange about it.

"It looks suspiciously like a win," she quipped. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: OREGON LOTTERY - David and Jean Black celebrate after cashing in a $100,000 lottery ticket.

The couple excitedly took the ticket back to where they bought it, Dotty's Cafe, 3157 S.W. 257th Drive, in Troutdale.

"The clerk there scanned it, and we felt it zing with a bunch of zeroes," Jean said. "This was his lucky day!"

The couple claimed their prize on Monday, Sept. 10, and said that though their house is already paid off, they will invest a portion of the money into home improvement, and save the rest for retirement.

"We are going to hang on to the money for a rainy day," she said.

The prize is the largest winning ticket Dotty's has ever sold, according to Oregon Lottery records.
