Bynum retains seat in House District 51 race
Incumbent Democrat Janelle Bynum retained her seat representing House District 51 defeating challenger Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer for a second time.
Bynum was leading Thursday morning with 54 percent of the vote to Chavez-DeRemer's 46 percent.
District 51 includes Happy Valley and is bounded on the north by Southeast Division Street in the Centennial neighborhood of Portland.
This is the second time Chavez-DeRemer has challenged Bynum. The two faced off last time in 2016 when Bynum was elected with 51 percent of the vote.
This election Bynum grabbed national headlines because as she was campaigning door-to-door in Clackamas, someone called law enforcement reporting a "suspicious person."
