Sign up by March 1 for April 13 event, which will include a 5k, 10k and half marathon

Start planning and training for the city of Gresham's first 5K run/walk, 10K and half marathon this spring that will feature a course highlighting the beautiful trails and paths around the community.

The Gresham Lilac Run, presented by Unitus Community Credit Union, will be from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13. The event kicks off and ends at Gresham City Hall, 1333 N.W. Eastman Parkway.

The route is planned to go along the Wy'East Way, the Gresham-Fairview Trail, the Springwater Corridor Trail and the Gresham Butte Saddle Trail.

Those interested in participating should sign up at bit.ly/2Azelwl before March 1 to guarantee a spot and event T-shirt. The race will be capped at 500 runners.

Before the main events, children ages 12 and younger can take part in the Little Lilac 1K run, which will begin at 10 a.m. Every participant must be accompanied by an adult, and children signed up before March 31 will receive a Little Lilac 1K medal. The Gresham Lilac Run fees and donations support Family of Friends Mentoring, which helps connect children in need to local mentors.
