East Gresham Elementary is taking shape
Neither snow, nor rain... has slowed the construction of East Gresham Elementary School.
Despite high winds, rain and snow, workers are moving ahead with construction of the new school. The walls are up in most of the structure and the second-story floors are being constructed.
Like at North Gresham Elementary School, students are attending school in the old building while the new one is being built. The new East is being constructed where East's playgrounds, ball fields and parking lost once stood.
As soon as students leave school in June 2019, the old East will be demolished and the playgrounds and parking will be installed where the old school once stood. Students will attend the new East in the fall of 2019.
In addition to replacing East and North elementary schools, Gresham High School is being substantially rebuilt and Barlow High School is also getting a big upgrade.
All district schools got safety and security upgrades. Some elementary schools also got new playgrounds and some added classrooms.
The building program is being paid for by a $291.2 million bond Gresham-Barlow district voters approved in November 2016.
