CupidCrew helps spread good cheer and flowers in Gresham at Courtyard Fountains

The movement, #CupidCrew, had groups visit area seniors to deliver roses and strike up conversations. The East Multnomah County sponsor was Courtyard Fountains Senior Living, 1545 S.E. 223rd Ave. There were hot drinks, heart-shaped cookies, goofy outfits, and of course, plenty of roses to go around.

"We love doing this because a lot of people can't celebrate Valentine's Day like they used to," said Laurie Thomas, who serves on the board of Vital Life Foundation, which helps distribute the flowers.

Two parties were set up at Courtyard Fountains — one for the retirement community and another for those in assisted living. Any seniors who were unable to attend the parties had roses delivered to them in their rooms.

The initiative began in 2014 by the nonprofit organization Wish of a Lifetime and has continued to grow. In the local region, 2,000 roses were given out this year at 13 facilities.

"A lot of us who work with seniors have a passion for it," Thomas said. "Today could have been filled with a lot of loneliness. Love is the foundation of what we do."
