Here's an opportunity to put yourself in the running to win the Ultimate Summer BBQ Package, and at the same time help the Gresham Breakfast Lions Club raise the money it uses to support its local giving.

The Lions are busy selling raffle tickets at $20 each, or six for $100. The winning ticket will be drawn at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, during the club's meeting at M&M Cafe, 137 N. Main Ave., in downtown Gresham.

The lone winner receives $500 for use at White's Country Meats (donated by Gresham Ford), a Traeger BBQ Grill valued at $700 (donated by Burns Feed Store), and a 22-cubic-feet upright Frigidaire freezer (donated by Riegelmann's Appliance).

The club is selling a maximum of 2,000 raffle tickets.

The Breakfast Lions Club members all have tickets for sale, but if you don't know a Lion personally, here's how you can go about entering the raffle: Contact Rich Correa at 503-201-8091, send him an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. Funds from the Ultimate Summer BBQ Raffle will be used to purchase eyeglasses and hearing aids for children whose parents are unable to afford the expense. The club's fundraising also is used to sponsor children who attend vision and hearing summer camps.

The club also presents American flags to first-graders in three local schools.

Coming up on April 17, the club will present $1,000 scholarships to 11 students from Gresham, Barlow and Springwater Trail high schools.

In addition, the club adopts eight local families each December, providing a holiday tree, food to last the month, clothing, toys for children and a family gift.

The club also combines its financial resources with the national organization to help in the event of a national crisis — such as earthquake, major fire or hurricane.
