COURTESY PHOTO: WIKIMEDIA COMMONS, STAFF SGT. NAOMI SHIPLEY - Saturdays health fair will teach kids how to take care of their teeth and provide some free dental care. Children can get free dental care and health screenings at a health fair on Saturday, March 9.

The fair will offer dental treatments, vision and hearing screenings, height/weight checks, fluoride treatments and lead screenings. The fair will feature mobile dental units.

Children can get instruction on how to properly care for their teeth.

The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Rockwood Boys & Girls Club, 454 S.E. 165th Ave.

The fair also will offer information about nutrition, car seat/bicycle safety, fire safety, oral health care, Oregon Health Plan insurance and available community resources. Representatives from the free preschool Head Start will also be available to discuss the program.

The event is sponsored by the Multnomah Dental Society and will include a free lunch, free toothbrush and toothpaste, prizes and entertainment.

The fair is being held as part of the American Dental Association's nationwide program, "Give Kids A Smile." The objective of "Give Kids A Smile" was to mobilize the nation's dentists during February (National Children's Dental Health Month) to provide free oral health care services to thousands of low-income children. The local fair had to be rescheduled from February because of inclement weather.
