Grant supports MetroEast classes
MetroEast Community Media has received a grant that will help the organization put together digital-literacy classes in the Rockwood neighborhood.
The $27,500 grant from the Community Grant Program of The Oregon Community Foundation will help the nonprofit media hub develop curriculum for the Rockwood Digital Inclusion and Youth classes, which focus on training for underserved groups.
One of the classes the grant will support was held in January, 2018, when MetroEast launched Podcast Camp with elementary school students from Rockwood Preparatory Academy. During the 3-week long afterschool camp, students learned how to conduct interviews, record, produce and edit a podcast.
Students applied those skills by interviewing professionals of color from the city of Gresham.
Those interested in listening to the student podcasts can do so at Soundcloud.
