The event was a fun way to conclude the organizations' youth spring break football, basketball and art camp, said Germaine Flentroy, operations officer for Beyond Black.

While the camp was only open to children from 5 to 17 years old, the barbecue was open to everyone.

The organizations hosted the event in conjunction with Gresham's community resource day.

Danielle White, a Rockwood resident, made her way over to the spring celebration after hearing about the event.

"I love doing this kind of springtime stuff," White said. PMG PHOTO: MATT DEBOW - Ania Taylor, 2, builds her version of Gresham with Legos at the Gresham Planning Departments informational booth.

She brought along her 2-year-old son, Raylan Soria, who decided to pose for photos by putting on sunglasses upside down.

The Gresham Fire Department, the Gresham Police Department and Gresham's planning department all hosted informational booths. At the planning department's booth children could help department officials help plan a city by crafting their best vision using Legos.

Ania Taylor, 2, was so focused on the her Lego project, her concentration could not be broken to ask questions about her creation.

In addition to the free burgers and informational booths, the community organizations gave out prizes through a free raffle.

Beyond Black's Operations Officer Flentroy called out enough numbers during the raffle that most attendees went home with at least one new pair of shoes. OUTLOOK PHOTO: MATT DEBOW - Raylan Soria, 2, poses by trying on a pair of sunglasses upside down.
