Employees at new branch greet clients and area dignitaries during grand opening celebration.

Unitus Community Credit Union celebrated the opening of its first Gresham branch on Saturday, April 6, with games of cornhole and giant Jenga.

The Portland-based credit union has been assisting its Gresham members — with more financial service than games — since it opened on Friday, March 15, in the Gresham Town Fair shopping center at 950 N.W. Eastman Parkway.COURTESY PHOTO - Attendees mingle during the grand opening celebration of the Gresham Unitus Credit Union in the Gresham Town Fair shopping center.

The credit union has been helping East Multnomah County clients for years, but until the March opening, the closest Gresham office was at Mall 205 on Southeast 96th Avenue in Portland.

The new spot is the credit union's 12th branch to open, and it's the fourth branch to open in the last 24 months.

The newest branch employs seven workers, five of whom transferred from other branches. Two are new hires.

During the grand opening celebration, the branch partnered with local businesses to raffle off 50 gift cards each worth $50. Bank representatives also handed out a $500 cash prize to one lucky winner.COURTESY PHOTO - Unitus Credit Union celebrated its grand opening on Saturday, April 6.

Snacks were provided by Heidi's, with drinks provided by Schmizza Public House. Schmizza is the Gresham credit union's next-door neighbor.

Key elected officials who attended the opening included Gresham city councilors Eddy Morales, Janine Gladfelter, Mario Palmero and David Widmark. Also greeting the community were Gresham Administrative Coordinator Teresa Hall, and, Oregon State Rep. Carla Piluso (D-Gresham).
