Web Academy student earns spot on national list, MHCC auto student heads to skills conference, more

Collin-Kazu Lewis, 15, a student at Metro East Web Academy, was honored by a new national directory listing.

He was inducted into the inaugural class of "100 High School Students America Needs to Know About." Lewis enrolled in Metro East Web Academy and its Early College program last summer and has started classes at Mt. Hood Community College.

He is taking prerequisites for an associate's degree in pre-medicine and will simultaneously receive his high school diploma.

Lewis is the Academic Affairs representative for the Associated Student Government at MHCC and the youngest MHCC student government member.

MHCC auto student competes nationally

Trevor Enquist, a student in the Ford Automotive Student Service Educational Training (ASSET) program at Mt. Hood Community College, will compete in the 55th annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, in June.

Enquist last month won a gold medal — and first place — in the automotive technology category, higher education division, at the SkillsUSA Oregon State Leadership and Skills Conference held at Camp Withycombe in Clackamas.

During national conference, held June 24-28, he will join more than 6,000 other career and technical education students, all of them state contest winners.

Nationals will include 103 different trade, technical and leadership categories

Military kids can get camp scholarships

YMCA Camp Collins in Gresham, is offering partial scholarships to 20 kiddos from military families for a week of overnight summer camp.

The $365 scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis and is available for kids entering second to ninth grades.

The full price of a week at Camp Collins is $815, although the subsidized rate is $715. Proof of military status is required.
