COURTESY PHOTO: MULTNOMAH COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE - Abigail KimA 29-year-old former registered behavioral technician was sentenced to more than eight years in prison after being found guilty of raping her 13-year-old autistic male client in his Gresham bedroom.

On March 4, a 12-person jury unanimously convicted Abigail Kim of second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy, and six counts of first-degree sexual abuse. Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced the sentencing Tuesday, April 23.

"Ms. Kim destroyed our trust and stole our son's innocence," the victim's parents said in an impact statement presented to the court. "Her actions have impacted our whole family in innumerable ways. … Our family has been affected both emotionally and mentally. We can never get back the time lost nor remove the negative memories this incident has placed on our son."

The assault occurred in the fall of 2017. Kim was employed as a registered behavioral technician and worked for a company that provided therapy to autistic children. The victim was her client.

According to evidence presented in court, over the course of months Kim developed a relationship with the child victim, which resulted in significant sexual contact, including kissing, touching and having sex during her visits.

During the trial Kim said the boy victimized her with aggressive sexual advances and that she was hesitant to report his behavior.

"This case is aggravated by the fact that when Abigail Kim was removed from the case, she attempted to shift the blame to the victim in an effort to protect herself," Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Melissa Marrero said.

After the sentencing was announced, Kim was taken into custody by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
