COURTESY PHOTO: MULTNOMAH COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE - Michael Lee HartA man was arrested in Gresham for shooting an officer in the arm with a pellet gun during an unrelated traffic stop.

At around 11:40 p.m. Thursday, April 25, two Gresham police officers had stopped a car near 878 S.E. 187th Ave., when one felt something strike his arm, penetrating the skin. After going to a hospital, the injury was determined to have been caused by an air gun.

Officers tracked the shooting suspect to a travel trailer across the street from the traffic stop. East County SWAT and police detectives assisted patrol officers with the investigation, and after several hours of negotiation, the suspect surrendered without incident.

Michael Lee Hart, 44, of Gresham, was arrested and lodged at Multnomah County Detention Center on two counts of second-degree assault and one count of assaulting a public safety officer.

Gresham detectives also investigated a connection between Hart and a similar air gun shooting that happened on Wednesday, April 24, at the same location. Officers received reports of an 11-year-old boy shot in the back. While that incident is still under investigation, Hart is facing charges for both.

Police are seeking witnesses of either incident.
