MHCC Foundation names directors

The Mt. Hood Community College Foundation has named Michael Moore of Amazon's Troutdale facility and Tanya Shanks-Connors of Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center to serve on its board of directors.

Moore, a former Marine, is the general manager of Amazon's Troutdale Fulfillment Center, which employs nearly 2,500 residents when at full capacity.

Shanks-Connors, a registered nurse, serves as vice president and chief nursing officer at Legacy Mount Hood. Shanks-Connors is also serving as the interim president of the medical center.

The Foundation raises funds in support of student success at MHCC through scholarships and classroom equipment.

Teen mental health fair slated

Teens troubled by a situation in their lives can drop in to the Gresham Library, 385 N.W. Miller Ave., from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, for some "me" time.

The Gresham Teen Council emphasizes they are not mental health professionals but "we can offer support and resources in a safe environment." They'll offer conversation, soothing tea and help participants make a bath bomb and a vision board. Call 503-988-5123.

Local students get scholarships

Three Gresham area students earned scholarships to pursue architecture or construction-related studies in college.

Nguyen Duong from Gresham High School earned a $6,000 scholarship from the local chapter of ACE Mentor Program. Kevin Leon from Gresham High and Tameta Thompson from Reynolds High School each earned $4,000 scholarships.

The nonprofit ACE Mentor Program is a free after school program for high school juniors and seniors interested in architecture, construction and engineering. Student teams collaborate on a building design project under the guidance of industry professionals. ACE also offers college scholarships for seniors and summer camp opportunities for juniors.
