Matthew Hester suspected of conspiracy in 2016 stabbing, current wife arrested for the crime in 2017

COURTESY PHOTO: GRESHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT - Matthew Hester Gresham police arrested the ex-husband of a woman brutally murdered in her Gresham apartment three years ago.

Police arrested Matthew Hester, 38, at his home in Kennewick, Washington, in connection with the stabbing of his former wife Annastasia Hester on June 10, 2016.

Matthew Hester was arrested on suspicion of criminal conspiracy to commit murder, solicitation of murder and hindering prosecution for his role in the murder of Annastasia.

The 34-year-old woman had been stabbed multiple times inside her apartment at 193 S.W. Eastman Parkway. Police have been investigating the murder for the past three years. But police say it was Matthew Hester's current wife, Angela McCraw-Hester, 37, who did the stabbing. They arrested Angela at her home in Pocatello, Idaho, on Oct. 4, 2017.

Charged with aggravated murder, McCraw-Hester is awaiting trail in the Multnomah County Detention Center. Matthew Hester is currently lodged in Washington's Benton County Jail, awaiting extradition to Oregon.

Annastasia and Matthew, married in 2008 and divorced in 2012, had a child named Alice. After Annastasia and Matthew divorced, a bitter custody battle over Alice played a part in the murder, court records revealed.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case can contact Gresham Police Detective Aaron Turnage at 503-618-3136.
