A Portland teenager has been arrested in connection to an early morning crash Monday, July 15, which left a passenger suffering serious injuries.
Julio Bautista Montella, 19, of Portland, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center for felony hit and run, second-degree assault, driving while under the influence of marijuana, reckless driving, reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal mischief.
Gresham Police responded at 2:12 a.m. to reports of a disoriented female stating she was injured and trapped inside her car. Officers found the car on Northeast Wilkes Road, just east of Northeast 181st Avenue. The adult woman was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
According to law enforcement, Montella, who was the driver of the vehicle, had fled the scene.
About an hour later a driver was flagged down by Montella at Northeast 162nd Avenue and Northeast Russell Street. According to the witness he was bleeding from the head, and claimed he was the backseat passenger of the car that had crashed. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Further investigation revealed there were no other people in the car and that Montella was the driver, police said.
