PGE tree work will shut westbound lanes in daytime Aug. 19-30 in the Gresham area

COURTESY PHOTO: PGE - PGE will trim trees, closing parts of East Burnside Street in the Gresham area until the end of August. East Burnside Street will be closed westbound for a big section of the Gresham area from Monday, Aug. 19, through the end of August, Portland General Electric announced Friday.

Parts of Burnside will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday from Aug. 19, through Friday, Aug. 30 for a "system improvement project," the utility said.

The closures will happen in two segments. From Aug. 19 through Friday, Aug. 23, westbound traffic along East Burnside Street will be closed between 172nd and 181st avenues. Then from Monday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Aug. 30, westbound traffic along Burnside will be closed between 148th and 172nd avenues.

The work will not affect the MAX line or access to any MAX stations.

PGE said the work is being done to improve power reliability. New overhead lines will be added to serve growth in the area and reduce the number and length of power outages.

Prior to the work, the road has to be closed so crews can trim and remove trees.
