John R. Shenfield, 35, of Portland died Wednesday in a motorcycle crash after speeding away from Port of Portland Police on Airport Way.

A motorcyclist, John R. Shenfield, 35, of Portland, sped away from Port of Portland Police early Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, and died when he crashed the bike near the intersection of Northeast 148th Avenue and Airport Way.

The traffic investigators concluded that speed and alcohol were likely factors in the crash.

Police reported they attempt to stop Shenfield at 1:35 a.m. at the intersection of Northeast 138th Avenue and Northeast Airport Way, and located the crash scene a short time later about 10 blocks further east.

Port Police requested the assistance of Portland's North Precinct officers and the Portland Police Bureau's Major Crash Team to assist in the traffic investigation.
