Team leads hold up signs for some of last years project locations. Upholding a valuable tradition, local congregations from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America will spread out across East Multnomah County for a day-long community service blitz.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, congregation members from seven local churches will participate in the "God's Work. Our Hands" program, wearing yellow T-shirts emblazened the slogan.

God's Work. Our Hands, a national day of service sponsored by the Evangelical Lutherans and is powered by congregations across the country, by thousands of church members and non-members who join forces with the church for a day of service work.

Locally, church members and friends from Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Resurrection Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church and St. Mark Lutheran Church will participate.

Volunteers will be doing service projects for more than 10 community organizations, including Days 4 Girls, Human Solutions, Metro Parks, and Habitat ReStore.

Then, at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, these congregations will gather for a combined worship service at Centennial High School. A joint choir, the celebration of Holy Communion, and time to reflect on the service projects will be followed by a fellowship potluck. The service is open to anyone.
