Troutdale Representative makes bid for soon-to-be open Monnes Anderson seat

PMG FILE PHOTO - Chris GorsekRep. Chris Gorsek is looking to move offices in Salem as he has declared his intention to run for Oregon Senate District 25 in the 2020 election.

Gorsek, D-Troutdale, filed with the Secretary of State for what will be an open seat in the 2020 election, representing Fairview, Gresham, Troutdale and Wood Village.

"After enjoying your support and encouragement over these last seven years — I've decided to take the next logical step," Gorsek wrote. "Our current Senator has decided not to run for re-election. That is why I have spent the summer thinking, and talking to many of you, about running for the soon-to-be open seat."

District 25 has been held by Laurie Monnes Anderson since 2004, after she served two terms as a Representative for District 50. The Gresham High School graduate and retired public health nurse is not seeking re-election.

Gorsek said he wants to be a champion for marginalized people and support working families from the upper chamber of the Oregon Legislature. Gorsek plans on improving the culture in Salem.

"I look at the impact that some of our more progressive Senators are making and I believe I should put my shoulder to the wheel and do what I can to help these efforts," he wrote. "I will be reaching out to you all to discuss our shared vision for the future as I work to earn your continued support."
