The eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 reopened Tuesday afternoon after being closed Tuesday morning at Northeast 238th Avenue because of a fatal traffic accident. It was the second fatal accident on I-84 Tuesday.

Preliminary investigation by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office suggests a dump truck was parked on the shoulder of the freeway in Wood Village near the off ramp.

The driver of the dump truck was outside the vehicle when a car struck the truck driver. After colliding with the dump truck, the car rolled over, the MCSO said.

The dump truck driver died at the scene, law enforcement said.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
