Gresham lights Christmas tree
Hundreds of community members gathered on a chilly Saturday evening to celebrate the start of the holiday season.
Gresham's annual Spirit of Christmas gathering filled downtown with fun activities, giveaways, a chance to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, and the lighting of the city's 60-foot Ponderosa pine Christmas tree.
The event began at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, in the Gresham Center for the Arts Plaza, 488 N.E. Third St. Before the tree lighting, Santa greeted the crowd, listened to children's wish lists, posed for photos and helped Mayor Shane Bemis in counting down to the lighting. There also were musical performances by local groups and schools.
The 2019 Spirit of Christmas was sponsored by Advantis Credit Union, the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce, Riverview Community Bank, Gresham Ford, Office Depot, Clackamas County Bank, The Outlook, Weston Kia, MetroEast Community Media and more.
