Visitors to new Burnside Road office can donate to choice of five charities as part of welcoming events

Burnside Road, Gresham, which opened last week. Ali Conant, manager of the just-opened Advantis Credit Union branch in Gresham, has a personal reason to be pleased about the location on 2229 N.E. Burnside Road.

Until recently, the Gresham resident has had to drive to work at various far-flung Advantis branches, including Tigard and downtown Portland.

"I'm so glad to be home," the Reynolds High School graduate said of her new position. "I love the people and the atmosphere out here. There's such a community feeling."

That feeling was in abundance on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 and 14, when the branch — the ninth for the nonprofit financial group's Portland-based Advantis — celebrated its grand opening. Special offers were available for first-time customers along with gifts and refreshments. Visitors were invited to enter a raffle to win one of three prizes including a $3,500 gift card from Walker Travel, good for a trip for two to Hawaii; a $250 gift card at Hillcrest Ski and Sports in Gresham; and a $250 Visa gift card.

"It went extremely well," Conant said of the event. "Close to 200 to 300 people were coming through the door."PMG PHOTO: SHANNON O. Gresham-area Advantis members who apply for a mortgage or refinance a property in East Multnomah County, Sandy or Damascus by Feb. 28, 2020, are eligible to have their origination fee waived.

Also, those who visit the Gresham branch can vote for one of five area nonprofit groups, including SnowCap Community Charities, Birch Community Services, Gresham-Barlow Education Fund, Human Solutions and My Father's House. Each vote translates to a $5 donation to the organization of your choice through the Advantis Gresham Community Grant Program.

"The voting is still going on," Conant said.

Rather than a traditional teller line, the branch uses ITMs, or interactive teller machines, but personal attention is still readily available through its six staff members.

A good number of Advantis's 3,000 members living in East Multnomah County have asked for a Gresham branch for some time now, Conant noted.

"We're really excited to be able to serve them as well as expand our membership into the Gresham community," she said.COURTESY PHOTO: ADVANTIS CREDIT UNION - Advantis Credit Union leaders and employees cut the ribbon at the new branch on Friday, Dec. 13.

Amanda Rhodes is among the Advantis members who's glad she now has a branch at her fingertips.

"It's really close to where I work, so I'm really excited it's here," she said.
