Gresham-Barlow middle schoolers get tablets

Clear Creek and Dexter McCarty middle school students are each getting computer tablets and internet access at home in a package worth about $3.6 million, thanks to Verizon.

The middle schoolers are receiving the tools as part of the Verizon Innovative Learning Digital Promise program.

Each of the two middles schools will get devices for all students, teachers and administrators. Each device includes a data plan that provides internet access outside of the classroom, according to the Gresham-Barlow School District.

Reynolds students also got computers recently.

High school students in the Reynolds School District got Chromebooks for use during the school year from the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission. Every middle school student received a tablet and internet service at home from Verizon.

Clear Creek and Dexter McCarty also will select a full-time coach dedicated to providing teachers with the support to leverage the technology in the classroom.

Digital Promise has experts called associate directors of professional learning (ADPLs) that will design customized teacher training for each school based each school's needs.
