Join the Gresham Lilac Run
Calling all runners — sign-ups are still available for a community run that takes participants across Gresham.
The second annual Gresham Lilac Run, planned for April, is a 5K, 10K and half-marathon open to anyone in the city. The event is sponsored by Unitus Community Credit Union and will begin and end at Gresham High School, 1200 N. Main Ave. The courses incorporate the city's trail systems, including the Springwater Corridor, Saddle Butte and Butler Creek trails.
This year there are two 5K courses — the original route that takes runners up and down the intimidating Walter's Hill, and a more mellow flat course along the Springwater. There are prizes for the top male and female finisher whom are able to conquer the daunting Walter's Hill.
All of the events will be timed by Huber Timing. Gresham High School Track & Field athletes will serve as course volunteers stationed at every turn along the routes to keep runners from getting lost in the community.
Anyone who wants to join in must sign-up by April 1. The 5K costs $35 and begins at 9 a.m.; the 10K is $50 and begins at 8:30 a.m.; and the half marathon is $85 and begins at 8 a.m. All racing fees and donations support Family of Friends Mentoring, which connects local children with dedicated mentors.
