Police detectives launch their investigation into the Thursday, May 22, shooting death of an as-yet unidentified man on Bluff Road in Sandy.

Sandy police apprehended and arrested a Sandy man shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday under suspicion of the shooting death of man on Bluff Road.

Joseph David Paul Anaya, 26, was taken into custody without incident.

Sandy police arrived on scene in the 15000 block of Bluff Road (just north of the Jonsrud Viewpoint) shortly after 5 p.m. Police were responding to reports of a disturbance and multiple gun shots.

As of Thursday evening, police had not released the name of the man who was fatally shot, pending notification of next of kin. Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition to the arrest of Anaya, police also contacted another person who had left the scene in a vehicle, but who was quickly located. Police have not identified this person.

Detectives launched an investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
