The 46 graduates of Springwater Trail High School received their diplomas during a socially-distanced ceremony Tuesday, June 9, at Gresham's Mountainview Christian Church.

Participants stayed 6 feet apart and staff and some students and family wore masks.

Like other high schools, the commencement looked different than past ceremonies because of restrictions in place designed to hamper the spread of the coronavirus.

For family and friends who could not attend, Springwater Trail live streamed the event.

Principal Ryan Blaszak said graduates took the changes in stride, despite being disappointed.

"There is no way to sugar coat it — this has been an extremely challenging time," Blaszak said. "In spite of the challenges, I have seen hope, humor, resiliency, and community shine through the isolation of quarantine."

Blaszak added he hopes "our graduates remain connected to each other and our school so we can continue to support one another: find humor to lighten the moment, offer strength when we waiver and provide guidance when others need it."
