Man arrested after shooting, standoff
A 66-year-old man was arrested Wednesday evening, July 1, after allegedly shooting someone and engaging in a standoff with Multnomah County Sheriff's deputies.
Robert Raymond Gillis Jr. was arrested without incident after about 45 minutes holed up in a home in the 4400 block of Southeast 302nd Avenue. He faces charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
Patrol deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 10:46 p.m. in unincorporated East Multnomah County near Troutdale. Upon arrival they found one adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
Deputies learned the alleged shooter, Gillis, was still on the property and repeatedly hailed for him to surrender. When he didn't immediately exit the home, deputies requested available SWAT members to assist. Eventually Gillis exited the building on his own.
