Oregon's running total of confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 eclipsed 20,000 for the first time in the daily report from the Oregon Health Authority on Thursday, Aug. 6.

The state added 267 new cases — including presumptive cases for which test results are not available — to bring the total number of identified COVID-19 cases since late February to 20,225.

As of Thursday, 339 Oregonians are known to have died in the pandemic. The latest fatality added to the count is an 83-year-old Umatilla County man who died Aug. 1, a little over two weeks after testing positive for the virus. The OHA said he had underlying medical conditions, like most of COVID-19's victims in Oregon to this point.

New cases were identified in 25 of Oregon's 36 counties in Thursday's update. Forty-five are in Multnomah County, Oregon's most populous, which has had the most cases by far in the state.

Other double-digit increases are in Marion County with 33, Washington County with 30, Umatilla County with 27, Clackamas County with 22, Malheur County with 19, Jackson County with 16, Deschutes and Lane counties with 12 apiece, and Jefferson County with 10.

The positive test rate in Oregon now stands at 4.4%.
