An Estacada tradition that typically gives attendees the dirt on mushrooms will not take place this year.

On Thursday, Aug. 6, the Estacada Fungus Association announced the cancellation of this year's Festival of the Fungus because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual event usually takes place the first weekend of November and often draws more than 500 attendees to Estacada High School. Last year's gathering featured everything from an enormous display of locally collected mushrooms to vendors selling mushroom tarot cards.

Around town, several restaurants typically offer special mushroom-related dishes to complement the efforts of the festival.

"The Estacada Fungus Association board of directors announced today that 2020's Estacada Festival of the Fungus, the EFA's annual first-weekend-in-November showcase of the area's abundant fungal bounty, has been canceled due to the current Covid-19 situation," Nolene Triska of the Estacada Fungus Association wrote in an email.
