Community members extinguish Friday afternoon, Sept. 11, brush fire, officials investigating

VIA MCSO - A small brush fire was started by fireworks, leading to a tweet from Multnomah County Sheriff's Office: 'We are at a loss for words.'A small brush fire that was contained Friday afternoon, Sept. 11, appears to have been started by someone setting off a string of fireworks.

According to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and Corbett Fire District 14, residents in the 1700 block of Northeast Brower Road in Corbett heard a series of pops and saw 6-foot flames in the forest around 3:52 p.m. The community members were able to put out the fire using a shovel and water.

An investigation into the incident found fireworks placed about 100 to 150 yards off the road, near vegetation.

Multnomah County deputies are conducting high-visibility patrols throughout rural Multnomah County to dissuade these types of action. If you have any information about this incident, contact the nonemergency line — 503-823-3333. If you see flames, call 911.
