Driver shot after allegedly wielding gun; his identity and condition remain unknown

Gresham Police officers shot a man during a traffic stop Thursday evening.

The department released a statement that the shooting took place near the intersection of Southeast 181st Avenue and Ash Street. The identity of the man or his condition was not released.

Officers responded to calls of a suspicious vehicle around 7 p.m., Sep. 18. Officers determined the vehicle had been stolen after running plates while it was parked outside an apartment complex a few blocks from where the shooting occurred.

According to police, they followed the driver before pulling him over. The driver allegedly displayed a gun, and at least one Gresham officer shot him. Officers treated the driver at the scene before he was transported to a hospital.
