More than half of the Riverside Fire is contained, firefighters confirmed Sunday, Oct. 4.
Officials from the U.S. Department of Forestry, the Bureau of Land Management, the Oregon Department of Forestry and the National Incident Management Team said the 138,085-acre fire burning outside Estacada has reached 54% containment.
The 445 member team is engaged with a variety of tasks pertaining to the fire.
"Handheld infrared work will begin on the northwest side of the fire with a focus around structures," officials stated. "Firefighters are continuing to assist with extinguishing smokes reported through 9-1-1 calls. Chipping operations are finishing up in the northeast. Suppression repair work is occurring on secondary contingency lines. Firefighters will continue to patrol firelines, cold trail and mopping up as needed."
