Child, two others nearly shot in car in Southeast Portland
Police are investigating two shootings and a stabbing in the Centennial neighborhood since Saturday.
In the most recent incident, a 6-year-old girl and two others in a car were almost hit by gunfire near Powell Butte Park overnight.
According to police, officers responded to a report of gunfire near the intersection of Southeast 162nd Avenue and Haig Street at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. When they arrived, the officers found the victims' vehicle with damage consistent with gunfire.
"The driver reported that he was driving on Southeast 162nd Avenue with his girlfriend and his girlfriend's young daughter when someone began shooting at their car," police said in a release. "The suspect vehicle then passed the vehicle and fired from the front. When the victim made a turn to try to get away, the suspects fired into the side of the vehicle."
Police said at least five bullet hit the vehicle and one of them was lodged into the seat directly behind the young girl. No injuries were reported, however.
No suspect information was immediately released.
Before that, a 15-year-old boy was hospitalized with serious injuries from a late Saturday stabbing.
According to police, at 11:09 p.m. Oct. 17, East Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a stabbing in the 17200 block of Southeast Alder Street. They located the victim with a stab wound to the back. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital with serious injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates that he was approached by two boys in their early teens, one of whom cut him with an unknown weapon.
Officers attempted to locate the suspects, but were unsuccessful.
And earlier in the day, a woman was shot in the arm during an argument outside an apartment complex..
Police say the shooting was reported shortly after noon and officers were dispatched to complex on Southeast 167th Avenue off of Southeast Division Street. When they arrived, the officers found a woman who had been shot in the arm. Officers were able to make a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding until medics arrived and took her to a hospital.
According to the investigation, the woman and another person she knew were arguing in the parking lot before it escalated into a shooting. The suspect ran away right after. No other suspect information was immediately released.
