Eligible small businesses across country can apply for grants beginning Thursday, Oct. 22

More financial support is available for eligible businesses across the country as everyone continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The second round of the HartBeat of Main Street Grant Program will open Thursday morning, Oct. 22, to small businesses with a brick-and-mortar presence.

Grants of $5,000 and $15,000 will be awarded on a competitive and first-come, first-served basis. A minimum of 50% of grants will benefit diverse-owned businesses — including minority, woman, veteran, disabled, and LGBTQ-owned.

Applications for the second round of the HartBeat of Main Street open at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, and runs through 4:59 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. A link to the application will be posted online at Thursday morning — you can visit beforehand to see what will be needed.

The funds can be used for physical improvements needed to meet COVID-19 restrictions; safety equipment like touchless payment methods, automatic door sensors or disposable menus; fees associated with expanding business to e-commerce sales; rent, payroll and other operating expenses; and more.

Eligible businesses must:

- Have a physical location that operates in an older or historic main street, downtown or commercial district

- Employ 20 or fewer fulltime employees, including the owner

- Have been in operation since Jan. 1, 2019

- Have an owner who is 18 years or older
