Three juveniles from Gresham have been arrested in connection to an "unprovoked" assault and subsequent death of a man walking in downtown Gresham late last month.
Tod Alan Barker, 53, was attacked on the evening of Sept. 27 while walking in the 200 block of Northeast Roberts Avenue. He later died in the hospital Friday, Oct. 9, from injuries sustained during the assault, which police said was committed by strangers.

The youths who were arrested — whose names are being withheld by law enforcement because they are minors — include a 16-year-old and two brothers, 15 and 11 years old. The older boys remain in custody, while the youngest was released to his family.
Though the attack on Barker was apparently committed by strangers, the Gresham Police Department did not feel there was a significant threat to public safety.
"I'm not seeing any significant concerns for the public related to this incident," said a spokesperson with the Gresham Police Department.
Their recommendation to the public is to remain aware of your surrounding and maintain situational awareness while out walking in the community, especially if it is dark out.
