Filling police cruisers for charity
Gresham Police officers were stationed in the community Thursday, Dec. 3, to help receive donated toys for local foster kids in need.
The second annual Fill the Cruiser event ran from noon to 8 p.m. outside the Gresham Fred Meyer, 2497 S.E. Burnside Road. The charitable endeavor was created and organized by patrol officers who wanted to give back over the holidays.
Community members shopping at the store could purchase a toy for a child, helping fill one of the cruisers parked at the three entrances to Fred Meyer. The officers then took the toys to the Gresham Department of Human Services.
"Every year we discuss how we can engage with the community," said Chief Robin Sells. "Our officers really miss being engaged, and this was a way they could give back."
Fill the Cruiser was more important than ever because of all the other things that have been canceled, including the Gresham Police Department's popular Shop With a Cop event.
